Watt & Breyer-Brandwijk (1962) note that in southern Africa the leaf is applied by the Luo in inflammation of the ear.



Cassinopsis ilicifolia Kuntze

The thorn of this species, which is straight and about 1 in [= 2.5 cm] long, produces a burning sensation on penetrating the skin (Watt & Breyer-Brandwijk 1962).



Citronella moorei R. Howard
[syn. Villaresia moorei F.Muell. ex Benth.]

This species yields a timber known as churnwood. Cleland (1943) notes that working with the wood of V. moorei causes sneezing.

von Reis Altschul (1973) found an herbarium note stating that the sap of the wood has been used in China to heal eye wounds.



Phytocrene blancoi Merr.

von Reis Altschul (1973) found herbarium notes stating that in the Philippines the leaves are applied for pinworms and the sap from the cut stem is a medicine for "singaw" (pink eye = conjunctivitis?).
